    DAY 2

Your morning starts with a delightful breakfast at your accommodation.

After breakfast, our guide will collect you from your accommodation at 10am. Today is a full day, with a visiting a number of local Artist Studios.

The first destination is the private Sculptural Garden of Jacques van der Merwe. In his art, Jacques has been exploring the ‘human condition’ for the last few years; specialising in the personal relationship between man/animals and the physical conditioning. The sculptures are in different materials; bronze, resin, plaster of paris, hydrocal and found objects.

After spending time contemplating in the garden, we venture to the Studio of Monique Quarantini. Her studio, a converted dairy shed nestled in an avocado orchard, is where Monique creates delicate, beautiful and yet functional works of art. Drawing on her surroundings to create pieces that tell the story of a spiritual connection to place, which invokes a sense of tranquillity in the viewer. A potter for 30 years, her medium is clay and porcelain.

Loving the immediacy of working with charcoal on paper, Monique also creates large works, which are expressive and energetic, allowing her Song lines to tell her story.

Following on from the morning discovering the works of local artists, we take some time to enjoy lunch at a local winery. After lunch we embark on our final destination, a sculpture studio hidden in a delightful garden.

Kate French is widely revered as a teacher of portrait sculpture. She travels extensively conducting workshops and as artist in residence. We discover hidden sculptures, watch works in progress and see samples of Kate’s lyrical paintings.

    DAY 3

Following breakfast at your accommodation, be ready for our guide to collect you from your accommodation at 10am. Today we head west to one of the picturesque towns of the Scenic Rim.

Boonah-based artist Christopher Trotter is behind some of Queensland’s most recognisable public art sculptures.

Within the current trend of upcycling, Christopher is a past master, deconstructing and reanimating rundown trucks, old boat propellers, rusting farm equipment and other industrial debris. As an industrial sculptor, through the careful selection and amalgamation of materials, he breathes life and personality into his Dr Suess-inspired creations.

Since 1994, he has created over 40 public works and many have been commissioned as high-impact tools for the promotion of cultural tourism. Perhaps you recognise the City Roos (aka the metal kangaroos) in George Street Brisbane?

We visit Christopher’ scenic property, which serves as a gallery of sorts with completed works scattered around the place, each one varying in size and theme. The acreage is also filled with materials for future art pieces, waiting for the talented sculptor to work his magic.

After our visit, it’s time to enjoy some country style cooking with lunch at Flavours Café. Located in a historic 1916 building, it was once the former office for the Boonah Butter Factory.

Once we have re-energised, we take a short stroll to our final artist studio destination via a sculptural timepiece.

Christopher Trotter and Boonah horologist David Bland, are behind the unique Blumbergville Town Clock which sits proudly in Boonah’s High St. The six-metre-high town clock took a year to complete and was made using old stationary engines and various rural components from the 1800s. Blumbergville was the original township name of Boonah. The clock was created to honour the spirit of resilience of the Scenic Rim community, particularly the region's primary producers.

Our final artist studio visit in the region features works from a classic artist with deep roots in realism, ranging from large-scale public artworks to sensitive nudes and dynamic animal compositions.

As a lifetime horse lover, Catherine Anderson was drawn to express the vitality and power of animals through sculpture capturing the grace and movement of animals and people in stunning bronze pieces, which have been featured in galleries and public spaces throughout the region. Her most recent being at the new Naval Memorial at Southbank.

Catherine uses the traditional lost wax method of casting and personally finishes each piece. In our studio visit, we will have the opportunity to observe he work at various stages of production.
